I just finished watching Great Expectations. It was a good movie. You guys should watch it if you haven't already. I understood a lot more of it than I did when I watched it the first time. [Naturally, since a lot of the "thematic elements" weren't meant for little kids] A lot of the movie is sad.
Finn: What is it like not to feel anything??
Estella: Let's say there's this little girl and from the time she could understand, she was taught to fear... let's say she was taught to fear daylight. She was taught that it was her enemy, that it would hurt her. And then one sunny day you ask her to go outside and play and she won't. You can't be angry at her, can you?
Finn: I knew that little girl, and I saw the light in her eyes, and no matter what you say or do, that's still what I see.
Estella: We are who we are. People don't change.
Turns out she was using him all along. Later he goes on to say, "Don't you understand? ... Anything that might be special in me ... is you." This could be interpreted in two ways. 1) girls use guys only to get what they want; or 2) guys are idiots for not realizing number one. I'm not saying that this is the case for everyone--quite the opposite in fact. But in this case, as bad as Estella's ploys may have been, I shake my head in disappointment at how blind love had made Finn. From age 10 to the ripe old age of ... 30-something, he still couldn't figure it out. I guess this doesn't make much sense to those who never read the book or saw the movie. I personally never read the book, but, as mentioned before, I saw the movie and since it was based on the book, I imagine it can't be all that different from the book. The sad thing is, in the very beginning of the movie, Mrs Densmore or however her name is spelled [Estella's aunt] warned Finn that Estella would only break his heart. "And yet you love her."
It's a Friday night. John invited me over to his house to play basketball and watch movies and stuff with some other people. Unfortunately, I can't because my parents aren't home and I can't really go anywhere. What do people do on Friday nights? I'm sure they don't stay at home and watch Great Expectations all by themselves. Not most of them, anyway. I've concluded that people are least likely to go online on Friday nights, because, well... Usually there are a lot more people online than there are now. I'm starting to wonder what I'm doing. Hmm, I feel like I'm boring again.
I wonder who reads this now. Aaron told me I could actually sound good if I tried. I sound good enough for me. I don't need to live up to YOUR standards, Aaron!! Just cuz you're the expert in sounding good doesn't mean you can push people around. If you push people around, they might fall. This is often the case when you push them away too. I suppose ignorance truly is bliss. If you don't understand this, then why are you reading it anyway? Jay kei you can ask me about it but I doubt you will. I don't mean that in a bad way, but I just don't know who reads this anymore and it seems like only a few people do kinda like with my sister's webpage. [She usually addresses two people throughout her webpage] Leave a comment or IM me about it. Only two people online under my COOL buddy group: b l u e kerplunk and puff O 34. I wonder what Aaron does on his Friday nights? Plays with his cat? Does AP Physics homework? Watches Great Expectations. Well, from reading Cheri's xanga site [down with xanga!] I know that she, Gail, and Emily are/were/will be watching movies. I should just call up everybody who I know has AIM and ask what he or she is doing. If you're online and reading this and I'm online and doing whatever it is I do on Friday nights, please talk to me. I'm lonely. Thanks! =P
