In the past, I've wondered about people in various lines of work whose responsibilities at their jobs, in my best estimate, would run counter to their consciences. The industry I wondered about before was the credit card industry, where they deliberately conceal important information in a sea of fine print with the ultimate goal of driving people into debt. Today I was reminded of another group of people, not unified by an industry but by an occupation: corporate lobbyists. Paid to influence legislation in favor of their corporate overlords at the detriment of the rest of the country, lobbyists seem to be shaking hands with the devil. (The specific example that I was reading about was healthcare reform.)
I realize that these people probably have families for whom they must provide, but something tells me that the motivation for choosing this line of work is less than 100% love and more than 0% greed.
